The silly season in American politics

 

We are just two weeks out from the 2014 mid-term elections. This is often considered the silly season in American politics. It is a time when more mud is flung than on a rainy day at Churchill Downs. It is a time when television ads for local car dealers and erectile dysfunction are squeezed out by desperate campaign ads suggesting that this or that candidate may or may not have absconded with the church cashbox designated as “Children’s Nursery Fund.”

You may have noticed that none of the ads for Democratic candidates feature President Barack Obama. Given the extremely low approval numbers for Obama, Democrats running for reelection don’t want to be seen anywhere near him, unless they’re wearing full hazmat suits.
